Acceptance and Mission

AmericanVoters.US is a civic engagement platform built and operated by SeniorsUnited, Inc., a 501(c)(4) nonprofit civic organization. Our mission is to help people understand legislation and communicate effectively with their elected representatives.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and SeniorsUnited, Inc. By using AmericanVoters, you agree to these Terms and to participate in good-faith civic engagement. If you don't agree, please don't use the platform.

If you have an account, your use is also governed by our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines.

Eligibility

AmericanVoters is intended for individuals 16 years of age or older who reside in the United States.

By using the platform, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 16 years old
  • You reside in the United States
  • The information you provide is truthful and accurate
  • You will maintain only one account at a time

Your Account

Some features of AmericanVoters require an account. When you create one, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate information and keep it current
  • Maintain the security of your login credentials
  • Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised

You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.

You may close your account at any time from your Settings page. When you do, information is removed or anonymized according to our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or applicable law. Where possible we'll notify you, but we may act immediately if needed to protect the platform or other users.

Acceptable Use

AmericanVoters exists to support constructive civic engagement. We welcome disagreement — civic participation often includes strong opinions — but all communication must remain respectful and lawful.

You may not use the platform to:

  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity
  • Harass, threaten, or harm others
  • Send abusive, hateful, or threatening messages
  • Distribute spam, bulk-duplicated messages, or malicious content
  • Upload viruses or harmful code
  • Interfere with the operation or security of the platform
  • Use automated tools to scrape data, flood forms, or disrupt services
  • Attempt to access accounts or data that don't belong to you
  • Violate any applicable law or third-party rights

Users who violate these rules may have access restricted or terminated.

Content You Submit

When you use AmericanVoters, you may submit content — including your display name, profile information, avatar image, concerns, comments, vote positions and reasons, messages to elected officials, and invitations to others. These Terms refer to all of that as "your content."

You retain ownership

You retain ownership of content you submit.

License you grant to us

By submitting content to AmericanVoters, you grant SeniorsUnited, Inc. a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, store, distribute, and process your content in connection with operating and improving the platform and delivering your messages to elected officials. This license is the minimum we need to run the features you expect — for example, displaying your comment to other users, transmitting your message through congressional channels, and anonymizing-and-retaining your civic activity in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Moderation and review

We may review, moderate, edit, or remove content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines. Some content is reviewed automatically by AI services and image-moderation tools. Details about what is reviewed by AI and which providers we use are in our Privacy Policy. We do not restrict content based on political viewpoint.

If a moderation decision is made in error, you can contact us to request a review.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the content you submit and for ensuring you have the rights to share it. Don't submit content that infringes intellectual property, violates someone else's privacy, or otherwise breaks the law.

Messages to Elected Officials

AmericanVoters provides tools that let you send messages to members of Congress and other elected officials. When you use these tools:

  • You are responsible for the content of the messages you send
  • Your name and address are transmitted to congressional offices to verify that you are a constituent
  • Messages are routed through the U.S. House's Communicating with Congress (CWC) system, the Senate's SOAPBox system, or direct email where appropriate
  • Congressional offices store, process, and respond to messages according to their own policies — we do not control how they handle your message after it's delivered

To protect access to congressional communication systems, we may delay or reject messages that:

  • Contain threatening or profane language
  • Include campaign endorsements or political advertising
  • Are bulk-duplicated spam
  • Violate congressional communication standards

Users who repeatedly abuse messaging tools may lose messaging privileges.

Donations

Donations to AmericanVoters are voluntary and support SeniorsUnited, Inc.'s civic mission. Donations are processed by Stripe, our payment provider; we don't store your payment card information.

Because SeniorsUnited, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, contributions are not tax-deductible for federal income tax purposes.

The following terms apply to all donations:

  • Donations are non-refundable. Once a contribution is processed, it is not refundable.
  • Monthly subscriptions can be canceled at any time from your account or by contacting us. Cancellation stops future charges; the current billing period is not pro-rated.
  • Failed payments on a monthly subscription may pause or end the subscription.
  • Disputes and chargebacks are handled through Stripe's standard processes; their terms apply alongside ours for the transaction.

Our Content and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise noted, all content on the AmericanVoters platform that we create — including text, graphics, design elements, logos, software, and digital tools — is owned or licensed by SeniorsUnited, Inc.

You may:

  • Share public content for educational or civic purposes
  • Link to AmericanVoters to help promote civic engagement

You may not:

  • Reproduce or modify our content for commercial use without permission
  • Claim affiliation with SeniorsUnited or AmericanVoters without authorization
  • Remove copyright or attribution notices from any of our content

External Links and Third-Party Services

AmericanVoters may link to or integrate with third-party websites, tools, and services that help you learn about legislation, contact officials, or process donations. We don't control the content, privacy practices, or terms of those external sites and services.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SeniorsUnited, Inc., its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the platform.

Language. The English version of these Terms governs.

Changes to These Terms

As AmericanVoters grows and new features are added, these Terms may be updated. When we make changes, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will also notify you by email or through a notice on the site.

Your continued use of the platform after changes take effect indicates acceptance of the updated Terms.
