Community Guidelines
Effective Date: June 1, 2026
Civic engagement works best when people treat each other well. These guidelines describe what that looks like on AmericanVoters.
Our Civic Community
AmericanVoters is a civic platform where people come to learn about legislation, share their views, and engage with their elected representatives. It's built and operated by SeniorsUnited, Inc., a nonprofit civic organization.
These guidelines describe how we expect everyone here to behave — and what we'll do if someone doesn't. The goal is simple: keep the platform respectful, effective, and open to anyone who wants to participate in good faith.
These guidelines sit alongside our Terms of Use (the legal framework) and our Privacy Policy (how we handle your data).
Our Values
Four simple principles guide everything here:
- Respect — Treat others with dignity, even when you strongly disagree.
- Honesty — Share accurate information and speak from genuine experience.
- Inclusion — Civic participation should welcome people from every background and perspective.
- Constructive engagement — Focus on improving public policy and strengthening democratic participation.
What We Expect From You
Be respectful
Debate is a healthy part of democracy — disagree with ideas, not with people. Personal attacks, harassment, and abusive language aren't permitted here.
Stay focused on civic issues
AmericanVoters exists to help people understand legislation and communicate with elected officials. Keep your participation focused on public policy, legislation, and civic engagement.
Be truthful
Share information responsibly. If you're unsure about something, say so. Misinformation weakens constructive civic dialogue.
Protect privacy
Respect the privacy of others. Don't share another person's personal information without their consent.
What's Not Permitted
The following aren't allowed anywhere on AmericanVoters:
- Threats of violence or harm
- Hate speech or discrimination based on protected characteristics
- Harassment or intimidation
- Impersonation of other people or public officials
- Spam, scams, or commercial solicitations
- Attempts to disrupt or abuse the platform
- Sharing another person's private information without consent
- Illegal content or activities
Political Discourse
AmericanVoters is nonpartisan. We encourage thoughtful discussion about legislation and public policy — but we ask you to:
- Focus on issues and policy impacts
- Avoid partisan campaigning or personal attacks
- Respect that Americans hold a wide range of political views
We don't moderate content based on political viewpoint.
Moderation
To protect the integrity of the platform, we may:
- Remove content that violates these guidelines
- Issue warnings for minor violations
- Temporarily restrict certain platform features
- Suspend or terminate accounts for serious or repeated violations
Some moderation happens automatically. Display names, concerns, comments on bills, vote reasons, messages to Congress, and avatar images are reviewed by AI services as they're submitted. Details about which providers we use and what data they see are in our Privacy Policy.
Moderation decisions are intended to maintain respectful civic participation — not to favor any political position.
Reporting Concerns
If you see activity that violates these guidelines, please let us know. Include enough detail — where you saw it, what was said, when — so we can investigate.
Appeals
If you think a moderation decision was made in error, contact us. Every appeal is reviewed by SeniorsUnited management — we read each one personally.
A Shared Civic Responsibility
AmericanVoters exists to help people engage constructively with the legislative process. Every time you participate respectfully, you help strengthen a culture of informed civic engagement — exactly what these guidelines are here to protect.
Thanks for being part of it.
